School Council

Our School Council consists of representatives from each class from Years 1 to 6. Councillors are elected by their peers on an annual basis. The School Council then work together on changes that matter to them and the future of our school. Ideas are then shared back to the classes who, in turn, give contributions to be taken back to our next meeting. Ideas range from matters arising in classes, the whole school and also within the school’s community.

Feedback from last meeting.Thank you for coming.   Lunchtimes – Years 6,5 and 2 wanted lunch to be back in the hall and Years 4, 3 and 1 wanted it to stay in the classrooms. Less noise was a reason.   The ‘Friendship time’ is going to be organised by Majid and Mahdiya. This will take place at lunchtimes (1/week) in the outside classroom.
Choose a charity        After having a vote for either and animal charity, a children’s charity or a homeless charity, the school council voted for a homeless charity.   Mrs Barbour to discuss with Teachers if they know of a relevant homeless charity for this area.
Koalas  The school council need to discuss with their classes if we would like to continue to adopt Koalas.
Uniform        Should we have unisex uniforms? Should cardigans be offered to boys and girls?
AOB        Yr 5 – Harder lessons needed for some children. Should they do some Year 6 work? Can we get back to having a litter picking rota? Can our school dinners have more variety?

Skills for an effective School Council          Sensible Role models Showing respect A good listener Confidence to speak Speaking out when they see that something is wrong.
Should we raise money for a charity?    WE all agreed that we should raise money for a charity. Buddy suggested a homeless charity, Majid suggested an animal charity.
Lunchtimes?          Mahdiya, Eliana, Nomana and Kyran preferred to eat in the classroom. The hall gets too noisy and you have to wait for food. Buddy, Sajeef, and Majid prefer the hall. You can eat and then go out.
AOB        Mahdiya and Buddy said that the classroom can get to noisy and it is difficult to concentrate.   Eliana wondered if anything could be done about persistent late arrivals.   Majid suggested that we should have time within the timetable to ‘get to know your friends more’ We could call it ‘FRIENDSHIP TIME’
